Heading Northwest to Nassau(Rose Island)!

April 29th, 2020

We set off early for Rose Island near Nassau and had a great 37 nm sail. Shallow water most of the way crossing the Bahama banks. Made great time sailing 7-8 knots but had to always be on the lookout and dodge several coral heads. Another boat that was behind us some distance hailed us on the VHF asking us if we were clearing the coral heads and about the entrance to Rose Island. Like we know! First timers here. We just did the best we could keeping a lookout and following the charts. We chose to anchor on the north side of Rose Island due to winds. It was rolly and a little nerve wracking having to anchor close to shore but it was for only a one night stopover. We could see Atlantis in the distance and all the other hotels in Nassau. Again, it was eerie. Due to Covid, the hotels were almost dark at night.
