West Palm Beach- Waiting on a window!
November 13th-November 26th, 2021
We motored more than sailed to West Palm Beach overnight and arrived on a busy sunny weekend. Found our spot between the two bridges next to the public docks! Mack Sails drove down to pick up our ripped sailbag from the nasty weather in Fernandina Beach, Kevin and I took an uber to buy a starter battery for the port engine that went bad, and then we waited for weather to cross. Talk about a tight space to install the battery! Mack Sails delivered a repaired sail bag even in the pouring down rain so we were good to go. To pass the time, we walked almost every day, enjoyed the Farmer's market on Saturday (voted the best in the USA), went out to dinner a couple of times at O'Sheas Irish Pub and Rocco's Tacos. Kevin had a Smithwicks beer at the pub in honor of his Dad (we both loved it!). We also found a french bakery named Loic that makes the best almond croissants! Wish it wasn't until the last few days, otherwise would have bought more. Had to get fuel but almost every place had fuel line repairs going on so had to travel north of the bridges to get fuel. Kind of a hassle but we got up front and personal with a huge cruise ship entering the inlet. Almost felt like I could reach out and touch it! Our friends Delos and Sandbox finally joined us and we all waited to cross. Finally, we had an opportunity! It was a short window but after looking at all the forecasts we decided to make the 24 hr crossing to Great Harbour Cay! Delos and Sandbox chickened out so we were on our own but it was a completely smooth crossing.
